Air Force 4×5 the new affordable camera under 500€ (launch price

It was 2009 when I decided to start shooting with large format, I started with a Sinar F2 4×5, a 3.5 kg monster (body only) whose suitcase occupied the entire boot of my car. My first thought was, “ok, I want to approach photography in a more thoughtful way, enjoy what I’m doing and take all the time I need to do what I love to do… but I don’t want to break my back!!! ”

There was no other choice, I had to combine my manual skills with my passion. I had no other choice, I had to study and make a camera that solved these problems found in the field

  • Low weight, i don’t want to break my back
  • Easy to carry, to put it in a backpack
  • Large extension of the bellows, with a camera I wanted to be able to shoot a little bit of everything
  • Easy to focus, i need a good ground glass with fresnel,because I didn’t want to lose my sight
  • Good movements, possibly with mechanical zeroes so I don’t get lost under the black cloth

Era il 2009 quando ho deciso di iniziare a scattare con il grande formato, ho iniziato con un Sinar F2 4×5, un mostro di 3,5 kg (solo scocca) la cui valigia occupava tutto il bagagliaio della mia macchina (una Fiat Punto). Il mio primo pensiero è stato: “ok, voglio avvicinarmi alla fotografia in modo più ponderato, godermi quello che sto facendo e prendermi tutto il tempo necessario per fare ciò che amo fare… ma non voglio rompermi la schiena!!! ”

Non c’era altra scelta, dovevo unire la mia manualità alla mia passione. Dovevo studiare e realizzare una macchina fotografica che risolvesse questi problemi riscontrati sul campo

– Peso ridotto, non voglio rompermi la schiena
– Facile da trasportare, da mettere in uno zaino da montagna
– Grande estensione del soffietto, con una macchina fotografica volevo riuscire a riprendere un po’ di tutto
– Facile da mettere a fuoco, ho bisogno di un buon vetro smerigliato con fresnel, perché non volevo perdere preziosi decimi di vista
– Buona estensione dei movimenti, possibilmente con zeri meccanici per non perdermi sotto il telo nero
